January 3, 2007 - An early morning fire in the city of Newburgh heavily damaged the office portion of the Imperial Motel at 316 Broadway.

Newburgh was dispatched around 3:30 a.m. for a fire at the motel. When units arrived there was heavy smoke and flames coming out the windows of the office. Newburgh firefighters kept the blaze contained to the office area and knocked the fire down within minutes.

Newburgh Assistant Chief Gary Ferguson called for additional units to respond to the scene. Coldenham Fire Department’s FAST team and New Windsor with an engine crew arrived.

Cornwall Fire Department’s ladder and Orange Lake Fire Department’s engine were placed on standby at Newburgh's main station. Mobile Life Support Ambulance crews were also called to the scene.

City of Newburgh police closed a one block portion of Broadway for about two hours. The fire was under control within forty five minutes. Several occupants of the motel were displaced because of the fire. There were no reported injuries.
