January 24, 2007- "Twenty Two City of Newburgh Firefighters took time out of their busy schedules... to lend a hand to the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy.

The Academy recently purchased a historic mansion at the corner of Bayview and South Lander, which they hopewill become the school'd permanent home in time for the 2007-2008 school year. the future school, howeer, needs alot of work before it can open it's doors. The firefighters of Local589- some of whom ended their shifts at the firehouse and came straight to the school- spent the whole day gutting the entire interior of the three-story buliding. "We've dedicated our careers to serve this city, and this is just one way we can add to the success of the city." said Firefighter Bill Horton, adding that some of the firefighters are fifth and sixth generation Newburgh residents themselves. "We see how hard these kids work, and if we can help these girls out we will."

The next step in the rehabillitation of the school will be excavating the buildings dilapidated balconies. The project is scheduled to be completed by August of this year." (Mid Hudson Times 1/31/07)

In all over 40 Newburgh Firefighters spent 3 days gutting the interior of the school. A total of 120 yards of debris were removed wieghing in at over 200,000lbs.
