June 15th, 2008- An Alarm of Fire was transmitted for Box 237 at 406 Grand St at 1815 hrs. Upon arrival companies found a 3 story wood frame 30’ X 50’ with smoke showing on the 2nd and 3rd floors. A second alarm was transmitted at 1819 hrs bringing in Engine 10, Truck 10, an Engine from Middle Hope, and Vails Gate with their FAST.
Truck 1 forced entry to the building conducted a quick primary search, then vented the 2nd floor windows and opened the roof. Engine 1 and Engine 3 stretched (2) 1 ¾” lines to the fire floor. Operations were hampered by a Collier’s Mansion. Another 1 ¾” line was stretched and operated by AC Mandowski (Car 4) to protect exposure D (404 Grand St). During operations the home owners arrived to find their home a blaze, one resident passes out and was treated at the scene by Mobile Life Support. One firefighter was transported to St Luke’s Hospital with minor burns. The fire required extensive overhaul.
Coverage for the city was provided by New Windsor with and Engine Co, and Cornwall with a Truck Co. The fire was extinguished and companies took up at 2226 hrs.
